A three word text from my father sent me and my sisters scrambling for home. When we arrived he wasn’t there. Instead we found him at the home of the woman rumored to have been his secret lover for years.

Turned out, it wasn’t my dad or the mysterious widow who wrecked our lives that day. The cliched man in black did that. An hour later, my life shifted from being a semi-successful middle-aged artist with a decent (if not a little boring) boyfriend, to becoming law enforcement for the big, bad, and scary things that go bump in the night.

Did I mention I’m effin fifty?

I don’t like it and neither do my creaky knees. But there’s a bigger price to pay if I say no. So for now, I’ll play sheriff against supernatural baddies, deal with an injection of men into my life that make me go all tingly inside, manipulate monsters who delight in eating humans, wrangle rich paranormal one-percenters and—oh yeah, help solve the mystery of a party hostess gone missing.
